Happy, a small injured bird, was found on May 6, 2021, by his future owner. Barely a day old, with a bleeding head and a scabbed nose, Happy was in dire need of help.
His rescuer took him to a rehabber, who later informed her that Happy wasn’t fit for release and would likely be euthanized unless someone adopted him.
Without hesitation, she rushed back and brought him home, unaware that this tiny bird would soon change her life. Just two weeks later, her dog passed away, leaving her devastated. But with Happy needing constant care every 20 minutes, she found purpose and healing through him.
Happy quickly became a source of joy during her darkest days. He wasn’t just a bird; he acted more like a curious puppy.
Always eager to snuggle and craving attention, Happy would nudge her hand just like a dog does when wanting affection.
If she ignored him, Happy would chirp until he got her attention. It didn’t take long for them to bond deeply, with Happy joining her in daily activities, even trying to eat and drink whatever she had. His curious and playful nature made him feel like a tiny puppy in bird form.

Happy the Puppy-Like Bird
Happy, despite his disability, was resilient. Due to the scab that covered his beak when he was a baby, his top beak and sinuses were damaged, making it difficult for him to eat like other birds. But this clever little guy developed his own technique.
Instead of pecking straight down, he learned to tilt his head and use the side of his beak. This workaround allowed him to feed himself, proving just how resourceful he was.
The injury also left him with a permanent “smile,” which earned him the name “Happy.”
His owner’s love for him only grew, especially after seeing how determined he was to overcome his challenges. However, taking care of Happy required regular beak trimming, a task he didn’t particularly enjoy.
If she took too long, he would become visibly frustrated. But even through these moments, Happy showed a wide range of emotions, from joy to irritation, much like a puppy.
His playful and affectionate personality, coupled with his resilience, made him more than just a bird—he was a true companion.
