How a Brain Cancer Diagnosis Turned Yousuke Yukimatsu Into a World-Renowned DJ

In 2016, Yousuke Yukimatsu, a construction worker from Osaka, received a diagnosis that would change his life forever: brain cancer. Faced with his mortality, Yukimatsu made a bold decision—he left behind the hard hat and embraced his passion for music, diving headfirst into the world of DJing.

Transitioning from construction sites to the pulsating energy of nightclubs, Yukimatsu quickly became a prominent figure in Japan’s underground music scene. His unique style, characterized by eclectic mixes and an unorthodox approach, set him apart. Performing topless and bald, he became a memorable presence behind the decks.

His big break came when he shared the stage with American musician Oneohtrix Point Never, introducing him to a broader Western audience. This collaboration opened doors, leading to regular performances at renowned events like the Berlin Atonal festival.

In 2020, Yukimatsu released his mix album “Midnight is Comin'” under the Singapore label Midnight Shift, further cementing his place in the global music scene. His journey from a life-threatening diagnosis to international acclaim serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of following one’s passion.
