Truck driving is a really hard job. You need to stay fully concentrated for long hours because any mistake on the road can lead to a tragedy.
All of that while having control of an enormous vehicle, not as agile as a normal hatchback. A truck driver’s car could be a bit easier as proven by this Mercedes truck.
It is not an autonomous, driverless car per say. The driver still has all the control over it but on the highway, he can choose to let go off the steering wheel and the truck will just drive itself.
The driver can then relax in a comfy chair and work or rest while maintaining the control of the truck with a tablet, no need to push the pedals or turn the wheel.
Mercedes imagine that this truck will be able to connect to other cars nearby and to various points of interest. This would make the roads safer, as cars would just overtake without collisions.
So is this car the future of motoring? Only time will tell, but even the skeptics have to admit that safer roads and less tired drivers are ideas we should embrace and this truck does exactly that.
