Despite the immense pain she’s endured, Hambrick says she has no intention of hiding her scars. “I would never get plastic surgery to make them look less than they are,” she said. “I’m going to learn to love them.”

While Hambrick’s physical wounds will eventually heal, the emotional toll is something she will have to contend with for much longer. She has expressed difficulty trusting dogs, especially larger breeds, and admits that she’s now fearful of them.
“It’s kind of hard to trust the bigger ones. For now,” she said. However, Hambrick is determined not to let one bad incident define her relationship with dogs. “I don’t want to not like them because of one bad incident,” she added.
Her therapist has planned a gradual exposure to dogs to help her overcome her fears, but for now, Hambrick remains haunted by nightmares involving dogs. The trauma from the attack is something she will need time to overcome.
